Scores and Recordings for May 2026 Concert
American’s Bard

Here’s some motivation for learning the America’s Bard repertoire. Like Petition, this concert has many inspiring pieces by numerous great composers, in this case almost all based on the texts of the towering American poet, Walt Whitman. There’s a great version of A Jubilant Song by Norman Della Joio, and the centerpiece of the concert is Jeffrey Van’s A Procession Winding Around Me. Click the image below to hear VOCES8 perform, and Eric Whitacre conduct, his moving All Seems Beautiful to Me. Whitman’s words are sorely needed in today’s world.

The title of each piece below links to a PDF of the corresponding score with George’s markings, now in concert order.

Also listed for each piece are YouTube links and MP3 audio files, which can either be played directly from this page or downloaded to phones, tablets, or other computers. At the bottom of the page are compressed (ZIP) files containing the PDFs and MP3s for all pieces for convenient bulk download, as well as a forScore Setlist file (including scores) for forScore users. Please report any problems or ask questions to Chris Wood (ccwood@santafe.edu).
