"Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul —
How can I keep from singing?”

Old Quaker Hymn, Robert Wadsworth Lowry

As Covid-19 continues to prevent us from rehearsing and performing in person, the Chorale is grateful to our families, friends, audiences, and donors for support and understanding. We wish everyone health, safety, and community during the continuing international pandemic.

During Covid-19 restrictions, we'll be sending brief biweekly email messages with links to Singer Sidebars, very short videos (usually two minutes or so) that introduce you to some of our singers, virtual performances, and more. Those videos will also be posted here on our homepage.

Click here to sign up for the Chorale's email list. You'll automatically get the latest news about the group's performances and other activities. (And you'll save us money on postage, which we appreciate!)

As 2020 ends and a new year begins, we look back on a year that has been filled with loss for so many. Whether you have suffered loss of livelihood, loved ones, or just normalcy, we hope these periodic greetings from Sangre de Cristo Chorale have helped you feel that you are still part of a community.

Singing "Auld Lang Syne" on New Year's Eve is another tradition that got a new spin this year. In lieu of big public gatherings and house parties, we invite you to sing along with Chorale soprano Karren Sahler's performance of the song by clicking the video below. The Scots language title can be
translated as "for old time's sake." While 2020 had its challenges, it has reinforced the importance of appreciating the new ways we can connect with others, cherishing those we love, and never forgetting both old and new acquaintances. Karren dedicates this performance to the memory of her cousin Jane Willard.

And if you still need more Christmas spirit, click on the audio link below to hear us in perform
“Little Drummer Boy” in a recording from last years’s December Santa Fe concert.

“Little Drummer Boy” was written by composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 and originally published as "The Carol of the Drum". It is one of the most beloved and widely recorded modern Christmas song, with over 200 versions in at least seven languages. The song has been covered by singers as varied as Bob Dylan, Blind Boys of Alabama, Kiri te Kanawa, and Justin Bieber(!).
First recorded by the Trapp Family Singers in 1951 as “Carol of the Drum”, the song was subsequently recorded in slightly different versions entitled "Little Drummer Boy" by the Jack Halloran Singers and Harry Simeone Singers, and Simeon (and his friend Henry Onorati) claimed joint composer credit with Davis.
The Chorale is glad to join those giving Davis the credit she is due as original composer.
