Dr. George Case to Become the Chorale’s Interim Music Director

The Sangre de Cristo Chorale is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. George Case as Interim Music Director for its upcoming 2023-2024 season. Dr. Case has a multi-faceted background as a conductor, educator, and professional singer and brings a wide-ranging body of musical experience and artistic vision to his work.

Dr. Case holds doctoral and master’s degrees in conducting from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Boston University. He was formerly Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Boston Conservatory at Berklee where he directed the choral ensembles and the graduate choral conducting program. Dr. Case is also an award-winning educator of young musicians who frequently leads clinics and workshops for high school and college singers, as well as professional development sessions for teachers around the country. As a professional chorister, Dr. Case has performed with major ensembles across North America and Europe and is a regular member of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.

In addition, Dr. Case was the music director of the Newburyport Choral Society and the Boston Cecilia, both of which have a long-standing tradition of choral excellence in their communities. It was this experience that piqued his interest in the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. As described by Dr. Case, "I couldn't be more excited about joining the Sangre de Cristo Chorale as their interim Music Director for their '23-'24 season. The Sangre de Cristo Chorale represents the best of community music making in northern New Mexico, and I look forward to building on the already stellar work of previous directors. In the future, audiences and singers alike can expect an exceptional musical product combined with a joy of music making, reflecting the spirit of community at the heart of all of SDCC's endeavors."

SDCC Board President Judy Rowan states, “We are excited that Dr. George Case has agreed to lead the Sangre de Cristo Chorale in its upcoming season, and feel exceptionally fortunate that someone with his experience, his gifts and his stature will guide us as we move forward.”

The 2023-2024 season will consist of four concert cycles. The opening concert on Saturday October 14 will feature notable choral works, including Fern Hill by John Corigliano and Frostiana by Randall Thompson, among other pieces. Interested singers may contact Dr. Case for more information at sdccmusicdirector@gmail.com.

Letter from Dr. Case

Dear Valued Audience Members and Generous Donors,

Warm greetings to each and every one of you! As we approach the end of another remarkable year, I wanted to introduce myself and express my heartfelt enthusiasm and gratitude for your unwavering support of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. It is because of your dedication and generosity that we have been able to make a significant impact in the musical and community fabric of Santa Fe and northern New Mexico.

As I take the helm as interim music director of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale after five very successful seasons with Fred Graham, I find myself excited about the future of the organization and thrilled to announce our 2023-2024 season. I firmly believe that community organizations like ours play a vital role in fostering connection, creating opportunities for artistic expression, and strengthening the social networks of our communities. The Sangre de Cristo Chorale is no exception. Our unique product is not merely a musical performance but a touch-point for our community. We fill a niche that celebrates the love of music and the power of unity amongst a community of musicians and music lovers. Without your attendance and additional financial support, we cannot do the work we do. We are very grateful for your continued support and contributions.

Our 2023-2024 season – the Chorale’s 46th! – will feature four concerts once again.
From John Corigliano’s luminous Fern Hill to a concert of 21st century works centered around the effects of violence in our community and our opportunities for healing and processing the world in which we live, we will bring you a variety of music you are sure to enjoy. In between, we’ll celebrate the season with holiday music from the US and England, and finally a concert celebrating nature and creation. We have an exciting season ahead of us!

How can you be a part of the community of musicians and music lovers? Without you, we would not be able to fulfill our mission to make a difference in the lives of the community we serve. Like most arts organizations, our ticket revenue covers only one-third of our operating expenses.

As we reach the end of our fiscal year, we invite you to join us once again in supporting the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. Your donation will ensure that our music continues to touch the hearts and souls of our community this next season. We hope to see you at many of our concerts!

With heartfelt appreciation,

Dr. George Case
Interim Music Director
Sangre de Cristo Chorale
