The Sangre de Cristo Chorale is singing again!

Our group values great singing, hard work, a supportive rehearsal and performance climate, a diversity of voices, and fun! We invite you to sing with us in future seasons. Information about auditions follows below. Stay tuned for information about our next season's schedule and concert programs!

Thank you to all who attended our final concert of the 2021–22 season on May 7. Sangre de Cristo Chorale singers thoroughly enjoyed A Shakespeare Sampler, and we hope you did too!

We are mindful that this is a time of great sorrow and stress for many people due to world challenges from the war in Ukraine to the wildfires now destroying New Mexico homes and communities. We continue to believe that live music provides a valuable service in troubling times and can engender hope and courage. The performances by Ukrainian musicians while their country is under attack certainly make that case.

Our Latest Scholarship Recipient

We are pleased to announce that this year’s scholarship winner is Angelique Reagan! We were delighted to have Angelique sing in our soprano section this season, and she presented a solo—“Tonight” from Westside Story—at our May 7 concert. Angelique is a graduate of the New Mexico School for the Arts and has been attending Santa Fe Community College this year. She plans to continue her studies at New Mexico State University in the fall. Congratulations and best wishes for your career, Angelique!

Angelique joins a roster of nearly 50 students who have received scholarships from the Chorale (for a total of over $25,500 to date). For more than 20 years the Chorale has committed resources to inspire and encourage New Mexico’s youth in the experience of shared music making. It offers both  a student apprentice program for high school students (more than 60 students have participated) and this scholarship program (several recipients have been the first in their families to attend college).

Join the Chorale Community

While we take our summer break we will be looking forward to the next season. If you enjoy choral music, we offer several ways to become involved with Sangre de Cristo Chorale: If you or someone you know might be interested in singing in the Chorale, please contact Director Fred Graham (sdccmusicdirector@gmail.com) to arrange an audition before the fall. If you would like to underwrite a future concert or commissioned choral work, to make a special bequest to honor a loved one, or to assist the Chorale as a Board Member or with concert day tasks such as ticket-taking, please contact us via our Contact Page.

Your financial help is essential to the Chorale’s existence and enables us to keep ticket prices affordable. When you donate to Sangre de Cristo Chorale you are contributing to a local nonprofit that has served northern New Mexico communities for more than four decades. As we approach the end of our fiscal year, we ask you to consider a gift to support this community resource. You can donate online or send a check to: Sangre de Cristo Chorale, PO Box 4462, Santa Fe, NM 87502-4462.

Thank you for your continued support of choral music! We are, as always, grateful for your support of community-based choral music as patrons, donors, and volunteers.

Singer Sidebars, Virtual Concerts, and Musical Works in Progress enabled us to stay in touch with our audiences while we could not perform in person. The entire archive is available here.

Introducing the Composer of Our Latest Commissioned Work

Katie Kring (b. 1983) is a composer, lyricist, bookwriter, arranger, performer, stage manager, and boulanger based in Springfield, Missouri. Her musical theatre and choral works and commissions are performed internationally. Katie was commissioned by the Chorale to compose the music and lyrics for "The End and the Beginning" during the Covid-19 pandemic. The piece beautifully acknowledges the losses the pandemic has created for all humankind, while evoking hope for recovery and rebirth as we go forward.
