Join Us for Earth Song May 18

Sneak Peak! Earth Song Program Book and George’s Program Notes

Springtime in New Mexico provides a vivid example of ever-changing compositions in nature, and our May concert, Earth Song, celebrates this mercurial season.

Earth Song features Benjamin Britten's Five Flower Songs, which was composed as a 25th-anniversary present for botanist friends. From the fleeting "To Daffodils" to the slimy "Marsh Flowers" to the rollicking "Ballad of Green Broom," Britten masterfully captures the essence of five distinct flowers. Three much-loved pieces by Brahms celebrate the radiant beauty of evening, and music by Ticheli, Price, Guillaume, Gawthrop, and Forrest round out the concert, depicting the wonder and splendor of the earth.

Letter from Music Director Dr. George Case

Dear Valued Audience Members and Generous Donors,

Warm greetings to each and every one of you! I want to express my heartfelt enthusiasm and gratitude for your unwavering support of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. It is because of your dedication and generosity that we have been able to make a significant impact in the musical and community fabric of Santa Fe and northern New Mexico.

I am excited about the future of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. I firmly believe that community organizations like ours play a vital role in fostering connection, creating opportunities for artistic expression, and strengthening the social networks of our communities. The Chorale is no exception. Our unique product is not merely a musical performance but a touch-point for our community. We fill a niche that celebrates the love of music and the power of unity amongst a community of musicians and music lovers. Without your attendance and additional financial support, we cannot do the work we do. We are very grateful for your continued support and contributions.

Our 2023-2024 season – the Chorale’s 46th! – will feature four concerts once again. From John Corigliano’s luminous Fern Hill to a concert of 21st century works centered on the effects of violence in our community and our opportunities for healing and processing the world in which we live, we will bring you a variety of music you are sure to enjoy. In between, we’ll celebrate the season with holiday music from the US and England, and finally a concert celebrating nature and creation. We have an exciting season ahead of us!

How can you be a part of the community of musicians and music lovers? Without you, we would not be able to fulfill our mission to make a difference in the lives of the community we serve. Like most arts organizations, our ticket revenue covers only one-third of our operating expenses.

We invite you to join us once again in supporting the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. Your donation will ensure that our music continues to touch the hearts and souls of our community this next season. We hope to see you at many of our concerts!

With heartfelt appreciation,

Dr. George Case
