The Sangre de Cristo Chorale is singing again!

Our group values great singing, hard work, a supportive rehearsal and performance climate, a diversity of voices, and fun! We just completed our first concert after a nearly two-year hiatus. We invite you to sing with us in the remainder of the season. Information about auditions and future concerts follows below.

Last fall, when we were planning our 2021–22 season, Sangre de Cristo Chorale scheduled a program for February 19 in Santa Fe and February 20 in Los Alamos. In response to the persistent omicron variant in New Mexico, we have had to reschedule for spring. We plan to offer one performance of A Shakespeare Sampler in Santa Fe on Saturday, May 7 at St. Bede's Episcopal Church at 4 p.m.

We've made this change after much discussion about the best way to enable in-person rehearsals and a live performance while doing our utmost to ensure the safety of our singers and audience. Although we wish we could perform sooner, there is some good news.

The extended rehearsal time will allow us to prepare a rich program of selections for mixed, female, and male chorus as well as solo voices. Among the modern and contemporary composers whose settings of Shakespeare texts we'll be singing are: Matthew Harris, George Shearing, Emma Lou Diemer, Madeleine Dring, Joanna Forbes L'Estrange, Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein, and more!

The best news is that Shakespeare's texts are timeless! We look forward to sharing this program of lively and soulful music with you in May.

Your contributions to Sangre de Cristo Chorale in 2021 enabled us to start the new year on a solid financial footing and represent a strong start to our fundraising for this fiscal year. Here’s a quick update on our December fundraising appeal.

Chorale members who established the goal of a $5,000 matching grant for year-end fundraising actually contributed $5,600. We are pleased to report that your gifts exceeded the matching grant. Singers, concertgoers, and other supporters contributed gifts that totaled $6,875.

Your generosity helps sustain Sangre de Cristo Chorale during these uncertain times and enables us to attract a wide variety of singers who create a stronger choral community.

Happy New Year! We look forward to sharing more music with you in 2022!

Singer Sidebars, Virtual Concerts, and Musical Works in Progress are our way of staying in touch with our audiences while we were unable to sing for you in person. The entire archive is available here.

Introducing the Composer of Our Latest Commissioned Work

Katie Kring (b. 1983) is a composer, lyricist, bookwriter, arranger, performer, stage manager, and boulanger based in Springfield, Missouri. Her musical theatre and choral works and commissions are performed internationally. Katie was commissioned by the Chorale to compose the music and lyrics for "The End and the Beginning" during the Covid-19 pandemic. The piece beautifully acknowledges the losses the pandemic has created for all humankind, while evoking hope for recovery and rebirth as we go forward.
